110 organisations de la société civile de plus de 40 pays ont rencontré, jeudi 11 octobre, le président de la Banque mondiale Jim Yong Kim et lui ont demandé de soutenir la mise en place d’une couverture santé universelle dans les pays en développement.
Dans une lettre ouverte à Jim Yong Kim ces organisations, dont Oxfam, Coalition PLUS, Médecins du Monde, Act Up Paris ou encore la Ghana Universal Healthcare Campaign, appellent la Banque mondiale à "jouer un rôle vraiment progressiste et transformateur en matière de santé, en aidant les pays à atteindre la couverture universelle en santé."
La lettre adressée à Jim Yong Kim demande que la Banque mondiale aide les pays à offrir des services de santé gratuits à leurs citoyen-ne-s, à renforcer les systèmes de santé publics des pays en développement, et à collaborer avec l’OMS et d’autres institutions internationales dédiés à la santé. La société civile attend que la Banque mondiale agisse maintenant pour que l’accès universel à la santé devienne une réalité pour tous et toutes.
