2002 : Agir Ici takes a look at the years in reviewn
As Agir Ici’s 15th anniversary is approaching, the organization decides to reviews these past years of campaigns and mobilizations to promote a fair world. Among the resulting analysis is the necessity of international partnership in order to meet global issues and have more influence on public authorities such as the European Union, the IMF or WTO. Agir ici thus decides to continue this way.
November 2002 : the first meeting
Oxfam International sends a delegation to Paris in order to meet with international solidarity associations and express its wish to find partners in France, ideally a future affiliate. Agir ici has a meeting with them and shows its interest.
2003 : Agir Ici learns how Oxfam International is operating
Throughout 2003, Agir Ici regularly contacts Oxfam International and many of its affiliated members in order to understand the way the confederation works, its principles and goals. Those long months of searching have led us to be sure that we share the same values, goals and interests.
November 2003
Agir ici becomes an observer member of the confederation. This status enables us to get acquainted, to work altogether and to improve as to complete the affiliation.
2004 – 2005 : A growing partnership
Agir ici is progressively integrated and takes part in the confederation’s discussions and key decisions, attending general meeting as well as board of directors meetings (where each Oxfam has one vote). During that period of time, Agir Ici is also invited to take part in the discussions of the groups in charge of Oxfam’s 3 big campaigns: Make Trade Fair, Control Arms and Millenium Development Goals campaigns. The French organization is thus contributing to the internal debate defining the confederation’s orientations and actions and plans to later implement them in France.
End of 2005 – Beginning of 2006 : time for a review of the partnership
Agir Ici evaluates. These 2 years have demonstrated how an international partnership has increased our ability to impact decision-makers, and the results of our campaigns have never been better. A meeting with Agir Ici’s founder members is planned at the end of 2005. Then during the winter 2005-2006, we met with our members all over France to discuss the issues of an affiliation of Agir Ici to Oxfam International. Even if some worries are expressed, everybody agrees with the necessity to carry out the project.
Octobre 2006 : The affiliation is confirmed
On October 2, 2006, Agir ici becomes the French affiliate of the Oxfam International confederation and changes its name and brand to “Oxfam France – Agir ici”.
